Dance This Poem

This Girl Is All Verb

[Latin for word for emotion: Emovere, to move, remove, agitate, stir up]

She darts. Long leaps. Propelling forward. Higher, streaking through space.
She takes me with her; I’m soaring.
Her face: rapture of delight.
She’s uninterruptible. I go with her, stop breathing
at the miracle: monologue in motion. Dance steps become words.
Try to describe lightening as it’s happening.
What? Full stop. She hurls down,
a plunge onto the wooden floor.
I’m down there too: melancholic.

Then… she folds into herself. Is that her secret strength?
Kinetic to static in a blink.
Have you ever tried to catch a drop of water in your fingers?
Wait? Subtle and slow; she unfurls.
Muscled legs elevate her. She explodes. Spinning then sailing.

She is a swirling leaf. Joy on stage.
Remember when you rescued a moth? Its delicate wings turned to dust in your hands.
Don’t stop her.
One word: sublime.
This girl is all verb.
